A Bunch Of Black Cats Some Old, Some Cantankerous

Spirit came from a shelter that is trying to be no-kill, but needs our help. Suffice it to say he was on Death Row.

We suspect he has “only kitten syndrome.” An “only” kitten doesn’t learn from his siblings how hard is too hard when biting or scratching. Spirit really wants to be a good kitty, and he is improving, but he still…well…forgets.

He’s a lap cat. He purrs. He’s young, 1 1/2 to 2 years. He’s a big guy!

As sometimes happens here, Spirit fell in love. His sweetie, Phoenix, is a beautiful blue kitty with three legs, and she came to us feral. She’s doing so much better with Spirit by her side! We won’t put a three-legged, one-eyed, or other physically compromised feral cats back outside if we can help it. You saw our newsletter last week on bonded pairs. We must keep these two together.

Spirit and Phoenix were fine on the cat run/catio, cuddling together, getting into their heated kitty house, and snuggling up to their heated disks. But now it’s just too cold and they are in an inside cage together. It’s not their ideal situation but it’s better than freezing. Phoenix, while not inviting pets, is letting people reach in and stroke her. I think she could get to like it.

Anyone want a gorgeous, huge, black cat who might scratch you and who comes with a gorgeous, three-legged recovering from being a feral-ish girlfriend?

Meeta was kicked out of her home and abandoned, unspayed, at an apartment complex. A kind man who lives there fed her and appealed to us to take her.

Meeta may also have “only kitten syndrome.” She is on Rescue Remedy for cats and is getting better about scratching. She’s a kitty who needs to be told “No” firmly until she gets it, and she’s getting it.

A beautiful, black, medium-length-haired kitty who could use a gym membership, she is young, maybe only a year, and energetic!

Right now, she is in a cage while she gets used to her kitty roommates and, at least initially, to protect her human caretakers. We have a schedule for letting her out to bounce around the room—no kidding! She plays, purrs, asks for pets, but sometimes reacts with a scratch.

Does anyone want a gorgeous, medium-to-long-haired, sorta scratchy, young, playful, energetic kitty?

Sanslli came from Kerrville Pets Alive (KPA). Named “Trouble,” and thrown out of her house, she was rescued by a neighbor and taken to the Kerrville shelter, which is trying to attain no-kill status but needs a lot of help to achieve that.

She was also bitey and scratchy, but upon evaluation by a vet, was found to have pyelonephritis, a painful kidney inflammation. She is now on pain and antibiotic medication. We anticipate a much happier kitty soon.

Sansli is about 11 years old. She is on medication and improving in her foster home. We will keep you informed of her progress.

Fievel’s story you’ve read about. Snatched by a sweetheart on the way to a kill shelter, he made his circuitous path led to Thundering Paws. He was fostered with a couple with kitties, and they discovered that Fievel hates cats. Now he is with a couple who recently lost their kitty. Hopefully, he is getting, and giving, the love they all deserve. He’s about eight years old and would love his own human or humans.

Sweetie is at least 10 years old. For most of her life, she has been a yard cat of a wonderful man in East Austin. However, he noticed a few weeks ago that she wasn’t eating and seemed listless. He rushed her to a vet.

Sweetie was given IV fluids and many treatments to get her back to her darling self. She’s doing great in a foster home. She’s a purring, cuddling delight. If you’d like a snuggling happy cat, Sweetie would be all yours.

Stitch came from a Temple, TX rescue who couldn’t afford her care. She has a skin condition that is improving. She also has a broken leg which, while it has healed somewhat, is giving her pain. It cannot be mended and she is scheduled to have an amputation.
