Kitten Season 2020

Kitten season has begun!  Shown above is Khan, born on March 18.  He was found on a porch in San Marcos, Texas, with one sibling. The mother cat was either never seen, or disappeared soon afterward. A cold front arrived on March 20. The people at the house did not know how to care for the kittens, and they came to Thundering Paws, and went to one of our foster homes. Motherless kittens are very vulnerable at this age, and unfortunately, Khan’s brother Attila did not survive. So far, Khan is doing well and continuing to gain weight. In the picture above, he is about 3 days old. He’s already 10 days old, so the change has been dramatic. We hope to have updated pictures soon.

Khan and Attila were not our first kittens of the year.

Missy Elliot came to us from the Hays County shelter in February, when she was about a month old. The picture above was taken on February 22. She is now about 11 weeks old, and will be ready for adoption soon. Update 4/7/2020: Missy Elliot has been adopted.

Yes, we are doing adoptions, and we’re being very careful to maintain social distancing and otherwise limit transmission of the COVID-19 virus.  If you’re ready to adopt, please complete our online adoption form.

Not ready to adopt? We are also in need of additional foster homes, volunteers, and donations.  Thank you for everything you’re doing to help people and animals.

Special-needs cats: Dash and Ariel

Dash is a semi-tame cat, and Thundering Paws resident. He wasn’t eating well, and went to the vet yesterday. Tentative diagnosis: Inflammatory Bowel Disease, likely to be an ongoing problem.  The vet gave him a steroid shot, and we’re monitoring closely to see if that improves his appetite.  Please donate to help cover his medical treatment.  Thank you!

In a day or two, Dash will rejoin his companions, and again have access to the catio:

Ariel is a very overweight girl who has trouble cleaning her backside. Our choices are either to allow her to stay overweight and stay with her friends in the room and attached catio where she lives, or to put her in a cage, where she will be miserable and get no exercise. We’ve chosen the former.

Ariel has lesions that need to be biopsied and, if the results support surgery, to have surgery. Because of her size, she will need a work up before anesthesia. Approximate cost with biopsy, work-up, and surgery $1,200. Please donate to help her.

Ariel also needs a home. She was born 8/21/2010. We have shown her for adoption many times, although she has never shown well. That means she cowers, hides, or, on her worse days, hisses and growls at people. At home, she’s sweet, loves being petted, and is fine with the five cats with whom she shares a room.  Contact us to learn more.

Amplify Austin is 24 hours of online giving, starting tonight March 5 at 6pm.  To donate via this event, see our Amplify page, and please add “#LoveTitos” at check out. Tito’s will give us an extra $5 each time we receive a donation!

If you can—make that donation to us between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Friday, March 6. If we get the most unique donors during this time, we’ll win an extra $1,000—which will go a long way toward helping our special-needs cats!
